Can Someone Help Me with Android Email Notifications?

I have a HTC Droid Incredible. When I get an email notification I can check the email using the slide down menu and I click on the notification. From there, I can delete the email. However, then if I go to the Gmail app, the same email is still there. Is there a way I can delete the email in both places at once? I like checking it via the notification screen, but I hate having to delete it twice. I also don\’t want to only be able to delete it in the Gmail app. I hope this was clear.
When I open the notification to check the email, I delete it. If I open the Gmail app, the email is still there. My problem is that it\’s not deleting in the gmail app if I delete it in the notification slide down menu.

Sorry, but no, it\’s not very clear.. If you drag down your notification bar, and tap on the email, it takes you to that email in the Gmail app. If you delete the email, there\’s no way for it to show up again
